Nothing About Us Without Us! BCPF Self-Advocacy Conference 2024 (Virtual Events)

Join us for our learning and networking conference led by BCPF Members. Self-advocates supporting self-advocates!

This is a hybrid learning and networking event with activities taking place virtually March 13 & 14 and in-person March 15, 2024.

Event attendees will get to connect with peers while gaining experience and knowledge in leadership development areas such as advocacy, human rights, entrepreneurship, presentation skills, and more.

We have a stronger voice when we push for changes in society together. Conferences make it easier for people to share information, ideas, and tactics. This gives self-advocates more tools for advocating for themselves and makes policy better for everyone. 

The following schedule may change as we confirm workshops and presenters closer to the event. Come and support the presenters! Learn and connect with us. 

Virtual Events:

• Wed, March 13 @ 3:00pm - 3:45pm  Self-Advocacy Panel & Presentation: Accessibility & Overcoming Barriers with Jo-Anne, Mike, and Bryce. Learn from people who have experience fighting for their human rights and have lead advocacy projects in their communities.
• Wed, March 13 @ 7:00pm - 8:00pm  Happy Hour Get Together – "Show & Tell" Share About Your Favourite Keepsake or Memory. Join us for sharing stories and networking with your peers. Bring your dinner or your favourite beverage and let's connect!
• Thurs, March 14 @ 10:00am - 10:45am "Advocacy Circle" Share Your Advocacy Project, Poem, Speech, Song, or Blog Idea & Get Feedback. Plus, we'll start this session with a mini lesson from Colin @ Curiko on how to use art and writing for advocacy and expression.
• Thurs, March 14 @ 11:00am - 11:45am  BCPF Panel & Presentation: Entrepreneurship Tips & Small Business Ownership in BC with Margaux, Annika, and Krystian. Interested in starting your own business? Join us to learn from people who have!
• Thurs, March 14 @ 4:00pm - 4:45pm  Canada Disability Benefit & Advocacy Project Overview with Disability Without Poverty. Learn about how the new benefit is affecting us and what still needs to be done to make sure it helps.

These events are for:

• BCPF members and other self-advocacy group members
• Self-advocates or people interested in self-advocacy
• People with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Allies and supporters of people with disabilities

Join us virtually March 13th and 14th! Get entered into a prize draw when you register for the "virtual events ticket". The prize draw will be held at our Happy Hour event on March 13th and you need to be there to win. 

Want to host a group with your virtual ticket? You can use your ticket to join any of the virtual events with others, and take part from one screen together.

Please register for the virtual events ticket by March 10th. The Zoom login link for the 5 online events will be emailed out to everyone on March 11th.
